Guests at Aurora hotel defend selves during elevator fistfight at Red Lion Inn on Parker Road.
Mark Simmons went to the “Blackout Masquerade” expecting to welcome the new year at a high-tone party with his wife and friends.
Instead, he found the lobby of the Red Lion Hotel jammed with angry people trying to get into the ballroom, some of them flashing gang signs.
“There were a lot of people that didn’t sound like they were getting along trying to get in; they were pushing and shoving,” he said.
Hoping to avoid trouble, Simmons, 40, and his party went to a nearby brewpub.
They returned to the hotel, where they had already booked rooms for the night to avoid driving back to Greeley, and got on an elevator with a number of other guests.
Things got ugly real fast, he said.
